FALL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

November 6, 2018


On November 6th, 2018, the Northwestern HOSA Chapter officer team and class representatives attended the Fall Leadership Conference at the Columbus Convention Center. Attendees included Katie Shambaugh, Tia Miles, Skylar Edington, Brooklyn Woodruff, JJ Cline, Deanna Devore, and middle school representatives. Upon arriving in Columbus, at the Convention Center, the students received a lunch and took a seat for the opening remarks.  National Officer Welcome – Riya Gupta, Eastern Region Vice President National Service Project Announcement and Keynote Address: Dr. Karen Bankston, University of Cincinnati.  Students took valuable lessons from the opening remarks about being a difference making leader. 

After the completion of the opening session, groups were broke off to attend several workshops. Workshop: Bee A Leader presenters: Jenna Bechtel & Bea Amsalu, Workshop: Controversy with Civility presenters: Logan Sizemore & Kevin Myles, Presentation by Dr. Bhuvana Setty, Pediatric Cancer Physician, Nationwide Children’s Hospital,  Workshop: EQU! presenters: Trey Saunders & Aliyssa McCormick

Once all of the workshops were completed, all the groups headed back to the main ballroom for the closing remarks. The new Ohio HOSA theme was announced: " Not all Superheroes wear capes, but we do wear lab coats"  Upon completion of all the day’s events, students returned back to the high school with great leadership skills ready to be poured forth this year into the Northwestern HOSA chapter.

MIDEAST REGIONAL CONFERENCE

February 2, 2019

35 High School Students from Northwestern High School attended the Mideast Regional HOSA Leadership Conference on Saturday February 2, 2019 at Canton South High School. Out of the 35 students from Northwestern that attended the competition, 32 students qualified for the state competition on April 9-10, 2019 in Columbus, Ohio. Qualifiers at the high school level are:  Public Service Announcement 2nd place: Joshua Cline, Karlie Mowrer, Jordan Allshouse, Leeanna Ruegg, and Treyton Jester;   Biomedical Debate Teams 2nd place: Grace McCullough, Rachel Winkler, and Morgan McCoy; Health Education 1st place: Brooklyn Woodruff and Brooke Frybarger, 3rd place: Kate Linder and Hailie Tomsik;   Pharmacology Knowledge Test 1st place: Katherine Shambaugh; Behavioral Health Knowledge Test 3rd place: Jillian Beun; Medical Terminology 2nd place: Katherine Koontz; HOSA Health Career Photography 1st place: Riley Stull;   EMT Team 3rd place: Logan Haven and Tia Miles; Medical Innovation (Original) 1st place: Grace Chupp and Mackenzi Gray, 2nd place: Trent Boatner and Brianna Shearer; MRC Partnership 1st place: Shayna Allshouse, Deanna Devore, Skylar Edington, Ceili Smith, Taylor Haley, and Allie Kandel; and   Community Awareness 1st place: Samantha Barnette, Cierra Hershey, Lariah Severs, and Briana Troyan.

OHIO STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

April 10-11, 2018

2018 Results: 47 students from Northwestern High School and Northwestern Middle School attended the Ohio State HOSA Leadership Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday  April 10 and 11, 2018 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center and Tolles Career and Technical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Thirty students qualified for the International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas  June 27-30, 2018. The national qualifiers from NHS are: Health Career Issues Exam Morgan McCoy 2nd place, Hailey Smith and Ceili Smith, Health Career Photography Riley Stull 1st place, National Service Project Recognition and Job Seeking Skills Emily Finley 3rd place, Pharmacology Knowledge Test Katherine Shambaugh 3rd place, Public Service Announcement Team Karlie Mowrer, Brianna Shearer, Jared Alberts, Chris Orosz, and Joshua Cline 2nd place, National Service Project Hannah Kardohely and Amaya White, Outstanding HOSA Chapter Brooklyn Woodruff, Barbara James Service Award Haley Webb, and HOSA Happenings Grace Chupp . The national qualifiers from NMS are: Health Education Team:  Alayna Duncan, Chloe Salmons, Kari Holbrook, Extemporaneous Health Poster Sofi Linder, Health Career Display Emma Ewing and Brailee Beun 1st place, Emily Reed and Joy Kindall 2nd place, Scarlette Nolletti and Karissa Winland 3rd place, Medical Reading Chase Amlotte 1st place and Mariah Hill 2nd place, Medical Terminology Virginia Hamers and Prepared Speaking Cayden Fiala.  The other students that received the grand opportunity to compete in various competitions at the state level are Treyton Jester, Leeanna Ruegg, Skylar Edington, Jordan Allshouse, Grace McCullough, Rachel Winkler, Noah Pack, Katherine Linder, Samantha Barnette, Logan Haven, Emily Bouffard, Briana Troyan, Brooke Frybarger, Hailie Tomsik, Janna Ours, Mykenzie Snyder, Isabella Gill, and Ben Pollizi. Congratulations to all of these students on a job well done.

INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Dallas, TX  June 27-30, 2018

Sixteen students from Northwestern High School attended the International Leadership HOSA Leadership Conference in Dallas, TX  June 2018. Five students that worked as the Public Service Announcement team were recognized as a top 10 team. The national PSA team consisted of Jared Alberts, Jordan Allshouse, Joshua Cline, Brianna Shearer, and Karlie Mowrer.  Emily Finley placed 2nd place in Job Seeking skills. Grace Chupp was recognized at the recognition night for HOSA Happenings, for Northwestern’s website design. The students competed, attended workshops, visited the Fort Worth Stock Yards and many locations downtown Dallas.
